At this point, cultural awareness comes out as a central point. They dont care about the ways of other people. accounting, impact of cultural differences is ignored by them. I know their way, but my way is better At this stage, people are aware about the ways of the other people, but they think that their way is the best way. People perceive the cultural differences as source of problems and tend to reduce the significance of them. My way and their way At this stage, people know their way and the way of other people also. People choose the way according to the situation. People get to know that problems and benefits can be led by cultural differences. At this stage, people are willing to use cultural diversity to create new solutions and alternatives. Our way At this stage, people of different cultures meet with each other and new meanings are created by them. To meet the needs of the particular situation, new rules are created by repeating the dialogues continuously. Cultural Intelligence - Cultural Intelligence can be considered as the capability to work effectively across cultures. As the name suggests, it can be defined as how effectively or accurately the work can be performed across various cultures. In the terms of a person, it can be defined as how accurately he can interact with different work cultures. It is also known as Cultural Quotient (CQ). This term is used in education, business, academic research and government. People who have higher CQ are considered having good capability to work across different cultures. There are four CQ Capabilities. CQ Drive, CQ Knowledge, CQ Strategy, CQ Action. CQ is the ability to thrive in various cultures. The capability of the work done in different cultures can be known as CQ. Culture is formed by following factors Geography, Faith, Gender, Generation, Organization, Sector. When there are a lot of problems in culture, then people having good capability are required to resolve the problems across the cultures. Those people are considered as leaders who can communicate effectively and who are exciting, creative, enriching and inspiring. These people are leaders with cultural intelligence (CQ). According to cultural awareness, people should be aware about the cultures, beliefs and perceptions. When people of different cultures interact with each other, then they learn various factors of their cultures. Cultural Intelligence defines the ability to work across different cultures. So work can only be done, if people are aware of the social and environmental factors of the cultures. If people would be aware of their beliefs and perceptions, then they would be able to work across various cultures. These terms are used in education, business, academic research and government. Lets take the example of education field. A graduated person has the vast knowledge of his field. There are various streams like Arts, Science and Commerce etc. If people of two streams (Arts and Science) would meet to each other, then they would share the knowledge of their field. By sharing the knowledge, both of them would get the basic idea of the others stream also. Further, they would be able to work on the different stream also. So, according to cultural awareness, people are aware with their beliefs, but according to cultural intelligence, they can make themselves to work on the different culture also. So, cultural awareness is important for cultural intelligence. Cultural intelligence can be made possible, when people will share their knowledge to each other. If people would not have the knowledge of their own field, then they would not be able to share the knowledge of their field. Sharing is the most important factor to enhance the quantity of knowledge. For the growth of any organization, cultural awareness and cultural intelligence are the most important factors. There are various degrees of cultural awareness. According to the degrees; at the initial stage, people assume their way as the best way. At this stage, they ignore the impact of cultural differences and they dont care about the others ways. At the second stage, people are aware about the ways of the other people , but they consider their way as the best way. At the third stage, people are aware about the ways of the other people and they choose their way according to the situation. At the fourth stage, people of different cultures meet with each other and by the help of each other; they find a new and different way to solve the problem. This is the best way to get success in any organization, because, people are meeting with each other and sharing the information regarding their work. By this approach, people come up with the new and innovating ideas and get better outcomes. Cultural awareness and intelligence are important in the business field also. Lets take an example of an organization. There are various departments in any organization. People have enough knowledge of their department in any organization. There should be proper communication among all the departments of the organization. The growth of the organization depends upon the coordination among all the departments of the organ ization. This coordination would be maintained by the employees of the organization only. Proper cultural intelligence can be achieved by the cultural awareness only. In an organization, flow of communication can be described in following parts Downward, Upward, Horizontal, Diagonal. In each type of flow of communication, information is transferred from one level to another level. Information is transferred from employees to managers and managers to employees. Employees rise some important regarding the organization and managers and directors take the action on those particular points. Such types of flow of communications have following advantages Useful for management, Useful for employees, Provides valuable feedback, Encourages participation, Two way process. So, proper communication helps people to work with more accuracy and efficiency. It can be achieved when people of different cultures would interact with each other and share the knowledge. In cultural intelligence, there is requirement of people, who can resolve the problems by creating new ideas. It would be done, when people would be aware of their beliefs and perceptions. So, it can be concluded that cultural self awareness is important to develop cultural intelligence and cultural self-awareness assists people to be more culturally intelligent.
